SJCA Inc. is seeking a full-time Marketing Coordinator to do graphic design and proposal writing to support our Marketing and Business Development efforts.

The Marketing Coordinator will work with the Senior Marketing Coordinator to design and create various marketing materials in support of corporate growth. The primary responsibility will involve creating a visual presentation of our firm’s experiences, skills, and qualifications specifically oriented toward the procurement of a civil engineering design project. He/she will plan, design, and coordinate the production of content materials supplied by our professionals from multiple departments with a net goal of visually communicating why SJCA is the best firm to be hired for a specific project.
The Marketing Coordinator will be using established visual identity guidelines to tell a story of why SJCA is the most qualified, has the best relevant experience, and can perform at the highest of levels for the project. It must be understood that the process is highly competitive, and we want a candidate that has a ‘must win’ attitude. The smallest of details while preparing a proposal can be a deciding factor when competing with other firms to win that project. The ideal candidate not only has stellar design chops, but also an innate understanding of the craft and strategy of design, branding, and bringing creative ideas to life. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
- Concept, design, and prepare artwork and other elements in support of client needs that are consistent with visual identity guidelines. Produce compelling and differentiated materials that will be utilized both internally and externally.
- Possess ability to design a typically 12 Page print proposal that is deadline oriented. We expect you to be able to jump in with your keen design aesthetic and strategic vision whenever necessary.
- Serve as a resource in demonstrating SJCA’s ability to do the work. Be able to convey our experience in a manner that is professional and indicative of our abilities.
- Maintain consistent branding and assure consistent execution of those brand elements across the entire spectrum of the marketing items that you produce.
- In collaboration with other members of our Civil Engineering Firm, develop and implement creative projects that enhance the reputation of SJCA and are consistent with our company’s priorities and strategic goals.
- You will be a content creator to a point, technical content is coordinated so knowledge of our industry will happen organically. However, not only will you be designing, but you’ll be gathering interesting content from internal and at times external sources. We need you to be able to strategically understand the creative needs and be able to jump in to create the message needed.
- Be flexible. Understand that during the process of preparing the proposal that at times there are updates that need to be incorporated within the proposal to further enhance our opportunity for selection.
- Provide high-quality, elegant yet modern professional design, along with valuable consulting and client services. Develop and maintain good working relationships with our partnering firms and our internal staff.
- Meet with our internal staff procurement lead to gain an understanding of the targeted audience and goal of the proposed communications piece. Recommend solutions and design pieces for meeting objectives.
- Provide recommendations that will improve efficiency, reduce costs and elevate the productivity of marketing material production. Provide recommendations and/or solutions to improve and/or enhance the company’s creative quality and capabilities.
- Archive digital assets, including print job files and photos in our digital asset management system. Maintain staff resumes and graphics as needed.
- Work with our digital project management system and be astute and competent in working with naming conventions and processes related to streamlined project management.
- Collaborate with our design technicians to obtain photos and content in a timely basis understanding that the marketing materials are deadline driven and ‘last minute’ is not our best submission.
- Retouch & modify images/content as needed. Be a good wordsmith with excellent sentence structure skills.
- Ability to function as a productive member in a team-focused, collaborative environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Graphic Design, Marketing or related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Equivalent training and experience would be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in conceptual graphic design
- Experience working in a variety of different media, including print, digital/social/mobile and video are a plus, but the primary qualification is experience with the production of narrative storytelling utilizing printed marketing materials that are deadline oriented and focused on winning the project.
- Proficiency in Adobe’s Creative Cloud software, specifically InDesign. Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook 365 and PowerPoint.
- Ability to clearly articulate your design decisions.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to not get overwhelmed easily.
- Strong organizational skills, extreme attention to detail, and commitment to producing excellent work.
- MUST HAVE an editorial eye for the use of typography and color, layout, and visual communication hierarchy.
- Experience with video production and editing a plus (for our social content).
- Experience in printing processes a plus.
- Demonstrated successful work experience in a client-driven, organized, creative, results-oriented environment.
- Experience in magazine layout and production a plus.
- Experience curating content to each various platform, i.e. knowing the difference between the kind of content created for our website vs Facebook vs LinkedIn.
- Knowledge and interest in emerging technologies; openness to new approaches to communicating; solid understanding of the latest graphic and web design principles and aesthetics.
- Experience in the preparation of digital files for press and electronic transmission.
- Strong written communication skills and basic copywriting/storytelling experience.
Qualified candidates may expect competitive compensation, commensurate with experience. The position is primarily office-based, but the job could be remote some days on an ongoing basis.
