The Bridge Engineer position offers excellent growth opportunities to become project manager handling multiple projects.

Job duties include the following:

  • Perform bridge and small structure inspections and complete any associated reports and load ratings.
  • Perform hand and software supported bridge analysis and design computations.
  • Visit project sites locally and throughout the Indiana and other Midwest locations to perform bridge and small structure inspections, verify existing conditions during design, and provide construction support engineering.

Requirements for this Position

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)

  • Experience using the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual, INDOT Bridge Design Manual.
  • Experience with Bridge Inspection Reference Manual and INDOT Bridge Inspection Manual, and BRAGI.
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

          The Construction Inspector will work in a team environment.  Construction Inspectors ensure that construction meets local and national codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications.  Construction inspectors on our team examine highways and streets.  They perform an initial check during the first phase of construction and follow up inspections throughout the project.  Upon completion of the project, they perform a final, comprehensive inspection and provide written and oral feedback related to their findings.

          Position Duties & Responsibilities

            The Construction RPR will work in a team environment.  The Construction RPR is responsible for keeping track of daily construction operations to assure that the project is being constructed per the contract documents and construction plans.  They are there to reduce, and if possible eliminate, the potential for construction defects or deficiencies.  The RPR must be organized, communicate effectively with the Client, Contractor, and Engineer, and always research and plan ahead as much as possible.

            Position Duties & Responsibilities

             

            • Reviews project documents for errors, seeking resolution before construction letting or preconstruction conference, whichever is applicable.
            • Attends public, preconstruction, scheduling, partnering, and other meetings as required.
            • Responds to inquiries from local public officials, news organizations, and other interested parties.
            • Meets with affected property owners in the project area and works to resolve access restriction issues, drainage problems, and other issues that may arise during construction.
            • Maintains all project files in an orderly and usable manner including, but not limited to, daily project reports, submittals, certifications, invoices, correspondence, and change orders.  Oversees inspectors’ work doing the same, including daily reports of materials placed, locations of work, work interruptions, contractor workforce size and composition, test results, and any other related information.
            • Prepares progress reports, special reports relating to problems and delays, and examines and approves daily field reports prepared by others.
            • Coordinates work assignments of inspectors.
            • Examines and approves contractor requests for payment.
            • Prepares final construction records per SJCA and client specifications.
            • Prepares as-built plans, field drawings, or sketches as necessary to implement and document minor changes to project specifications.
            • Represents SJCA and our clients in an honorable and professional manner.
            • Ensures that all project employees are safely performing work in compliance with OSHA and other applicable standards. Report deficiencies to the appropriate authority when necessary.
            • Position includes approximately 15% office coordination between phone and emails and 85% travel and remote work from a worksite.

              • Assist with coordination and documentation of ecological, wetlands, and waters data for NEPA environmental documents.

              Requirements for this Position

               

              The successful candidate should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, botany, environmental science, or natural resources and have relevant experience working in the field of ecology or related field.  The desired candidate must have proven experience in successfully processing federal and state waterway permits in accordance with IDEM, IDNR, and USACE procedures. These may include Section 401/404 applications, Construction in a Floodway (CIF) applications, and Rule 5 applications. Experience with NEPA document preparation and wetland delineations in accordance with INDOT and USACE delineation procedures is strongly desired. Candidates with less educational background but proven experience with plant identification, knowledge of Indiana ecosystems, and federal and state waterway permitting will also be considered.

              •  Bachelor’s degree with sufficient and relevant experience in biology, botany, environmental science, or natural resources, or proven experience in field data gathering and analysis.  Masters preferred.
              • Proven experience (minimum 5 years preferred) with USACE, IDEM, and IDNR waterway permitting and agency coordination. Experience with INDOT project permitting preferred.

                Job Duties and Responsibilities

                 

                Our Environmental Department performs diverse services such as archaeological and historic/architectural investigations in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106), environmental documentation in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), wetland delineations and waterway permitting. Our staff strives to find balance and harmony between development and preservation, serving as an environmental liaison between stakeholders and regulatory agencies.

                 

                The successful candidate will complete a variety of tasks in completing the Section 106 review process: field survey and photography of historic-era resources, historic research at various repositories, writing architectural descriptions, developing historic context statements, evaluating resources according to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) Criteria and Criteria Considerations, and determining the effect of the undertaking upon historic properties. The position includes technical report preparation and coordination with SJCA’s archaeologists whose work is integral to the Section 106 review process. Additional tasks will include preparation of fees and scope for prospective projects, which include a desktop review of the area for any historic/architectural resources. The candidate will also work in tandem with the environmental staff completing the NEPA documentation, meeting regularly to update project progress and prioritize upcoming tasks.

                 

                 

                Requirements for this Position

                 

                • MA degree in Public History, History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or related field Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in Architectural History (36 CFR Part 61).
                • 5+ years of experience working as an architectural historian.
                • Strong on-line and archival repository research skills.
                • Demonstrated ability to author National Register/California Register/local register evaluations and/or nominations.
                • Demonstrated ability to author Section 106 technical reports including identification and evaluation studies, finding of effect reports, and memorandum of agreements.
                • Knowledge of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) NEPA/Section 106 process preferred.
                • Demonstrated ability to lead architectural field surveys and technical report projects.
                • Demonstrated experience and competence with crafting and fulfilling cultural resources mitigation measures.
