ROADWAY ENGINEER | INDIANAPOLIS, IN

The Roadway Engineer position offers excellent growth opportunities to become project manager handling multiple roadway projects.

Job duties include the following:

 

  • Design of Roadway projects including horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, drainage design, ditch profile, guardrail calculations and super elevation diagrams.
  • Design and prepare plans for small structure projects.
  • Assist in preparing CAD drawings using GEOPAK, and/or OPENROADS DESIGNER and MICROSTATION software.
  • Assist in developing construction plans from engineering design calculations.
  • Perform quantity calculations and cost estimate for projects.
  • Design and prepare erosion control plans.
  • Design and prepare plans for Roundabouts.
  • Prepare plans for maintenance of traffic of roadway projects.
  • Attend various meetings such as field check, public information, hearing and pre-construction.

Requirements for this Position

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
  • 2 or more years of experience in roadway design.  PE license preferred.
  • Experience preparing roadway plans for DOT projects
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Possess excellent time management skills.

    UTILITY COORDINATOR | INDIANAPOLIS, IN

    SJCA Inc. is seeking a full-time Utility Coordinator to join our Indiana Transportation team.

    The Utility Coordinator performs the work of identifying, coordinating, mitigating and/or relocating utility facilities that are impacted by highway improvement projects throughout Indiana.  Typical responsibilities include the following:

    • Frequent communications with utilities, review of Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Local Public Agency (LPA) or local design plans, review of utility relocation work plans, constructability reviews of proposed relocations, preparation of agreements and site inspections during construction.
    • Act as the liaison between client/designer and the utilities.
    • 90% office coordination between phone and emails and 10% travel to do field check meetings.

    Requirements for this Position

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field OR, four or more years of experience in highway or utility industries with at least one year in utility coordination and/or relocation efforts.
    • INDOT utility coordination certification preferred or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire
    • Ability to read and understand highway and bridge plans and specifications.
    • Ability to upload documents into INDOT UMS preferred.
    • Proficiency in MicroStation desired to review utility conflicts and relocation design provided by the utilities, and to prepare master relocation drawings.
    • Experience in development and/or review of utility relocation designs.
    • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
    • Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
    • Possess excellent time management skills.
    • Ability to complete multiple projects within established schedules.
    • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

            CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR | INDIANAPOLIS, IN

            Typical Tasks

            • Frequent communications with project designer and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), LPA or local design plans, review of work plans, constructability reviews and site inspections during construction.
            • Be the liaison between client/designer and Department of Construction Services
            • Organization with managing many tasks simultaneously

            Experience Required

            • A minimum of 2 years continuous experience in the inspection of federally and locally funded transportation projects
            • Completion of INDOT Certified Technician Program
            • INDOT Materials Testing Certifications
            • SiteManager Training (preferred)
            • Knowledge of INDOT standards and procedures
            • Excellent communication skills

            Travel Required

            • 20% office coordination between phone and emails and 80% travel to do field checks
